Lens 1-0 Le Havre: Aguilar goal takes hosts back to Ligue 1 summit
Lens boosted their Ligue 1 title hopes with a hard-fought victory over Le Havre, bouncing back from last week's defeat to Marseille.
Lens replaced Paris Saint-Germain, at least temporarily, at the top of Ligue 1 as Ruben Aguilar's goal guided them to a 1-0 victory over Le Havre on Friday.
Having seen their 10-match winning streak halted by Marseille last week, Pierre Sage's team slipped to second in the table, but they jumped back into pole position ahead of PSG visiting Strasbourg on Sunday.
Lens were utterly dominant throughout the first half but had to wait until the first minute of stoppage time to go in front.
Florian Thauvin was denied by a smothering save from Lionel Mpasi after being slipped through on goal early on, while Le Havre's goalkeeper also pushed Malang Sarr's long-range piledriver to safety.
But the breakthrough finally arrived when Lens worked the ball to Matthieu Udol on the left flank, and with Mpasi seemingly caught out by the flight of his deep cross, Aguilar arrived at the far post to volley home.
Le Havre improved in the second half and only a superb save from Robin Risser denied Arouna Sangante a 54th-minute equaliser.
But Lens went even closer to getting the game's second goal when Adrien Thomasson bundled the ball in following an attempted overhead kick from Wesley Said, but after a VAR review, it was ruled the latter miscued his acrobatic effort and handled the ball towards his team-mate.
Data Debrief: Lens still rock-solid
Lens kept their eighth clean sheet of the Ligue 1 season on Friday, with only PSG (10) and Lyon (nine) boasting more this campaign.
And Roma (13) and PSG (15) remain the only teams to concede fewer goals than Sage's men (16) in Europe's top five leagues this season.
They limited Le Havre to eight shots and a mere 0.47 expected goals (xG) on Friday, while attempting 15 shots with an xG value of 2.14 themselves.
