Chelsea players must take responsibility for woeful Premier League form, says Chalobah

Chelsea's poor run led to Liam Rosenior's sacking, though Trevoh Chalobah believes the players are equally responsible for that stretch.

Trevoh Chalobah insisted Chelsea's players must take accountability for the turmoil that led to Liam Rosenior's sacking following a poor run of results.

Rosenior's tenure at Stamford Bridge lasted just 107 days, with the former Strasbourg boss relieved of his duties following a damaging 3-0 defeat to Brighton.

The Blues have lost five successive league games without scoring for the first time since November 1912, while their overall five-game losing streak is their longest in the Premier League since November 1993 (a run of six).

Calum McFarlane is in interim charge until Chelsea find a permanent replacement, and he got off to a winning start with a 1-0 win over Leeds United in the FA Cup, which saw them set up a final against Manchester City.

Chelsea are back in Premier League action next Monday at home to Nottingham Forest, and Chalobah believes his team-mates need to accept their role in the club's situation before things get better.

"No matter when the manager goes, it's difficult," Chalobah said. "You spend time with them, working with them every day. You have to adapt, you've got to reset again.

"We can use that as an excuse, but at the end of the day we've got to look at ourselves as players and take responsibility."

The Blues' downturn in form has seen their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League take a blow, with Chelsea now 10 points behind Aston Villa in fifth.

Chelsea are now assigned just a 0.5% chance of qualifying for UEFA's flagship competition with just four games of their campaign remaining to salvage their European hopes.

And Chalobah thinks Chelsea's mentality must improve.

"When things aren't going your way, that's what we keep hold of," Chalobah added. "We've shown it in parts of this season.

"It was just the same conversation today. We need to show our mentality, our winning habits and winning spirit.

"It's the hunger and determination. Wanting to win second balls, wanting to win headers. Those little things are what's needed. When we do that, our quality shows.

"Maybe when you don't win games, it's hard to get that determination back. It's just resetting, getting our standards back.

"It's still the same players we had at the start of the season when we were flying. It's not like we lose our abilities overnight.

"It's just resetting and getting that feeling back, that mentality back. The past is the past. For us, it's about results. We need to be winning games.

"That's what the fans want, it's what we want, it's what the club wants. What's happened has happened. We just have to look forward."
