Glasner hopes Forest move does not ruin Palace legacy
There is plenty of ill feeling between Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest, and Oliver Glasner has controversially moved between the clubs.
Oliver Glasner hopes his move to Nottingham Forest does not ruin his relationship with Crystal Palace's fans, following the discontent between the clubs last season.
Glasner was unveiled as Forest's new head coach earlier this month, after owner Evangelos Marinakis surprisingly opted to sack Vitor Pereira.
Pereira had led Forest to a 16th-placed finish at the end of a tumultuous Premier League season at the City Ground, with Nuno Espirito Santo, Ange Postecoglou and Sean Dyche previously being sacked by Forest as they flirted with relegation.
Forest also lost in the Europa League semi-finals to eventual winners Aston Villa, while Glasner led Palace to the Conference League trophy only a year after overseeing the Eagles' FA Cup triumph.
Forest were only in the Europa League due to Palace being expelled over a breach of multi-club ownership rules, with Marinakis reportedly lobbying for that decision.
And given Palace's furious response to being kicked out of the Europa League, many have questioned whether Glasner's relationship with their fanbase will now be beyond repair.
Asked that question at a press conference on Thursday, Glasner said: "I don't know. I will repeat that I am really pleased and grateful that I was part of that wonderful journey.
"There are players at Bayern [Michael Olise], Arsenal [Eberechi Eze] and Fulham [Joachim Andersen] who were part of that journey, too.
"It [moving clubs] is just part of life. We created memories, that's what I'm really proud of. I'm still in touch with a lot of my former players.
"I hope it doesn't happen, because I hope they appreciate that I gave 100% of myself, because that is all I can promise."
Forest and Palace will face off for the first time since Glasner's move in early October, at Selhurst Park.
Glasner's first competitive game in charge of Palace will be at home to Leeds United on August 22, on the opening weekend of the Premier League season.
