Al-Hilal 1-0 Damac: Milinkovic-Savic breathes fresh life into title hopes

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic's first-half header was decisive as Al-Hilal put some pressure on Al-Nassr, ahead of the leaders facing Al-Ahli.

Al-Hilal cut Al-Nassr's lead at the top of the Saudi Pro League to five points with a narrow 1-0 win over Damac.

Cristiano Ronaldo and company will face Al-Ahli – who are third – on Wednesday, when Al-Hilal will hope to see the leaders drop points as they attempt to chase them down.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic's 18th-minute header, which came following a neat flick from Salem Al-Dawsari and a searching cross from Theo Hernandez, gave Simone Inzaghi's team a lead they would never surrender.

The former Lazio man had already gone close on two occasions before his goal, while he also miscued with another header in first-half stoppage time, shortly after Hernandez's volley worked Kewin between the sticks.

Chances were few and far between in the second half, until Marcos Leonardo flashed wide and saw a header clawed away by Kewin late on, and relegation-threatened Damac did not manage a single shot on target all game.

Data Debrief: Al-Hilal first to 350 wins

Al-Hilal's victory was their 350th in the Pro League (183 at home, 167 away), more than any other team in the competition's history.

They are still yet to lose 50 games in the Pro League (they sit on 49 defeats as it stands), with their hopes of an unbeaten season still alive – even if they are outsiders for the title.

Al-Hilal are also unbeaten in all seven of their home games against Damac, winning six and drawing one, though this was the first time they had ever failed to score multiple goals in such a match.

And they have now gone unbeaten in their last 37 league matches, too.
