Getafe 0-2 Barcelona: Fermin and Rashford edge visitors closer to LaLiga glory
Barcelona moved one step closer to winning LaLiga as they secured a vital victory away to Getafe on Saturday.
Barcelona took a decisive step towards defending their LaLiga title with a 2-0 win at Getafe, courtesy of goals from Fermin Lopez and Marcus Rashford.
Real Madrid's 1-1 draw with Real Betis on Friday only strengthened the Blaugrana's position at the top of the table, and they have now moved 11 points clear of their rivals.
Fermin broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time, collecting a brilliant incisive pass from Pedri before confidently sliding the ball past David Soria and into the bottom corner.
The visitors were largely kept at bay after the break by Getafe's rigid defence, with Dani Olmo denied by Soria following a neat set-up from Jules Kounde.
Barcelona eventually found their second in the 74th minute as they moved seamlessly from defence to attack after a Getafe corner, with Robert Lewandowski sending substitute Rashford through on goal for a simple finish past Soria from the edge of the area.
Hansi Flick's side could have made it three in stoppage time as Marc Casado blazed over from close range, though it did not cost anything in the end.
Data Debrief: All-round showing puts Barca one step closer
Barcelona were full value for the win on Saturday, generating 1.86 expected goals (xG) to Getafe's 0.63 xG.
It was another strong collective display from Hansi Flick's side, who have now scored 17 goals via substitutes in LaLiga this season (Rashford on this occasion). Only Bayern Munich (18) have scored more across Europe's top five leagues.
Lewandowski, meanwhile, brought up a milestone of his own as he reached 100 goal involvements in LaLiga (81 goals and 19 assists), becoming the oldest player to hit the landmark in the competition this century, at 37 years and 247 days old.
