Al-Qadsiah 2-2 Al-Hilal: Al-Dawsari shakes off penalty miss to salvage point

Share

It looked like Salem Al-Dawsari's penalty miss was going to be costly for Al-Hilal, but the captain stepped up with an important late goal.

Salem Al-Dawsari made up for his earlier penalty miss by scoring a 90th-minute equaliser for Al-Hilal in a 2-2 draw with Al-Qadsiah in the Saudi Pro League.

Julian Quinones looked to have snatched all three points for the hosts against the leaders, but Al-Hilal fought back to ensure they kept a three-point cushion at the top of the table.

Al-Hilal made the ideal start when, eight minutes in, Neves scored an Olimpico, with his right-sided corner hitting the inside of the right post and bouncing over the line.

However, Nahitan Nandez took just over two minutes to equalise as he latched onto a long ball over the top and coolly slotted his shot past the outstretched leg of Yassine Bounou.

Five minutes after the break, Al-Dawsari was fouled by Jehad Thikri in the box, but when he stepped up from 12 yards, his tame shot was pushed away by Koen Casteels.

And against the run of play, Quinones rose high to nod Musab Al-Juwayr's delivery past Bounou in the 76th minute.

However, after Darwin Nunez missed a golden chance, Al-Dawsari popped up to rifle the rebound of Neves' cleared free-kick into the top-left corner, snatching a late point.

Data Debrief: Al-Dawsari spares his own blushes

Al-Qadsiah were attempting to put some pressure on the top two with a win, and Al-Hilal were staring at the prospect of their lead being cut to a mere two points, following Al-Ahli's victory 24 hours earlier.

Simone Inzaghi will feel a point was the least his team deserved after they finished the match with 2.6 expected goals (xG) from their 19 attempts, and six 'big' chances.

Al-Hilal also protected their long unbeaten streak; they have not lost any of their last 26 league games, though have drawn back-to-back matches for the first time since September.

Al-Qadsiah, who finished with 0.96 xG from seven attempts, should maybe have expected a late fightback. Al-Hilal have now won 20 points from losing positions this term.
